Customer Benefits

GWI is committed to developing its business in Australia. Our goal is to build long-term partnerships with customers that create value for their businesses.  Our planned acquisition of FreightLink’s assets -- together with our existing operations in South Australia -- will establish an integrated rail business that will yield a range of benefits for businesses using the railway.  These include:

  • No disruptions to current services:  Genesee & Wyoming Australia already operates FreightLink’s trains today. As the existing provider of above-rail services on the Tarcoola to Darwin railway, Genesee & Wyoming Australia has a sound understanding of FreightLink’s current business.  FreightLink customers will not experience a disruption in service resulting from the acquisition.
  • Improved services and increased maintenance and investment:  As a result of the acquisition, Genesee & Wyoming intends that services provided to customers will improve over time through increased investment in, and maintenance of, the Tarcoola to Darwin railway, resulting in reduced delays and interruptions to rail services.
  • Increased certainty for customers:  The acquisition will introduce a financially stable, reliable and experienced owner with a long-term perspective for Australia and will provide greater commercial certainty for FreightLink’s existing and future customers.

The acquisition of FreightLink is contingent upon customary closing conditions, including the receipt of certain governmental approvals.   GWI anticipates the transaction will be finalized in the next few months.
