Overall, railroads are the safest and most fuel-efficient form of ground transportation, according
to the Association of American Railroads. Freight trains are four times more fuel efficient than
trucks. Each ton-mile of freight moved by rail rather than highway reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by an average of 75 percent.1
Nevertheless, there is a collective understanding worldwide, particularly following the Paris Agreement, that every country and industry must take increased action to reduce our carbon footprint and protect the future of our planet.
With railroads across North America and Europe, G&W is particularly committed to this international cause and is proactively reducing its environmental impact in all regions where we operate.
